It was a perfect day to have lunch outside so I stopped by one of my all time favorite lunch spots, Ann’s, for a footlong. Although they have come into the digital age with a brand new sign it is still the mom and pop location I always remembered.

I showed up during the lunch rush and as usual there was a line out the door but I could already taste the food so I had no problem with the wait. They take orders quickly and they all have the memory of elephants so you place your order and move to the side like the soup nazi. It took a while because people were ordering 12 dogs at a time but I finally got my footlong with everything, fries, and a soda and it was under $6. I don’t know of anywhere else you can get a footlong hot dog for $3, especially not as good as Ann’s. The service and food is always superb but it has to be a once in awhile treat because I could feel my arteries clogging up with every bite I took.

Besides the taste, Ann’s has my loyalty and respect for keeping the small business alive when they were offered a buy by the developer of Marley Station Mall in 1986 which at the time was the largest mall on the east coast. The great thing is that the mall is now basically extinct and Ann’s is still running strong.
