Tonight, we went to Beefalo Bob’s Sports Bar and Grille located at 8015 Fort Smallwood Road, Pasadena, MD 21122. We arrived before 5pm and had immediate seating (seat yourself). You walk directly into the bar and there are 6 regular tables and about 12 bistro style tables and ample bar seating. Our server, Jamie, was bright, energetic and very friendly. The menu has a good selection of bar fare appetizers ranging from mozzarella sticks $5.95 for 6 pieces; large onion rings, $6.50 for 6 rings to crab pretzels at $11.50. My son, age 12, rated the mozzarella sticks, with chunky marinara sauce, 5 Stars. The onion rings were hot, crispy, a tad greasy with large onion slices (not my favorite), but the family gave it rave reviews.
We did not have any alcoholic beverages, but they have on tap Yuengling, Bud Light, Natty Boh, Samuel Adams, Blue Moon, and Miller Light. The bar seating area was getting crowded by the time we left at 6:30 and the server was running both tables and the bar. The clientele was calm and orderly, but it is a Wednesday night and only 5pm. The entire bar and seating area is surrounded by flat screen TV’s showing several different channels, however, the music over the speaker system was too loud to hear the TV’s.
We ordered the Pit Beef Sandwiches (regular $6.25 and large $7.95) with a side of French fries ($1.50). Jamie told us the beef is cooked daily on the outdoor pit from early in the morning. She gave us a tray with 6 different sauces: Barbeque, Carolina, Honey Barbeque, Chesapeake, Spicy, and Booming Barbeque ranging from very sweet to spicy hot. We were all able to find one to suit our tastes.
First, the fries were terrific, crispy and hot. Fresh-cut with the skins, perfectly fried, and lightly salted. I would give them a 4.5 out of 5 (Thrashers on the boardwalk gets a 5). The Pit Beef sandwiches we got on a toasted Kaiser roll were stuffed; the pit beef was tender, sliced very thin, not chewy, no burnt hard chunks and very tasty. I ordered mine medium well, but it came out medium with some pink beef, but it didn’t alter the taste. The rest were medium-well as ordered. The sandwiches were filling and delicious (not quite Bull on the Beach, but close enough). If I had to pick on something, I would say that the sandwiches weren’t piping hot and the rolls (soft) didn’t hold up and the beef was spilling out every time we took a bite.
Beefalo Bob’s is very clean, well-maintained, cleaned and stocked tiled bathrooms, and has a good parking lot. There is a big catering hall on the premises and appeared to be setting up for a holiday party as we were leaving. We will return to sample the soups, crab cakes, ribs, pit turkey, etc. All in all, I would rate our experience and the food at 4.5. Total for 2 appetizers, 4 pit beef sandwiches, 4 side orders of fries and 2 teas and 1 coke came to $55.97 including tax.
