Founders Tavern and Grille
8125 Ritchie Hwy, Suite P,

Word of mouth led me to the new restaurant “Founders” in Pasadena where “The Canopy” and ” Jumpers Grille ” once occupied. The new Grille has been completely gutted and renovated and is far superior to the former businesses. They have made the entire place much more open and welcoming than the tight, cut up, pieced together take-out,restaurant,bar that once stood.
I arrived at 11:20, ten minuted before they opened but the doors were unlocked and a few customers had been already been seated. I grabbed a stool at the bar and Victoria immediately let me know it would be a few minutes so I just had them her me the menu to look at while I waited. They have a different lunch menu from their dinner menu with dinner adding additional items but doesn’t look like the prices were increased for dinner. I looked over everything a few times and decided on the crab cake sandwich. I am usually against ruining a crab cake by slamming it into bread but did it anyway. It was a excellent medium-medium large crab cake meaning it was not a huge cake but not a disappointing size either. I also had the hand cut fries which were some of the best I have had anywhere and added a little old bay to spice it a little. They have homemade cole slaw which is one of my favorites but I was not a big fan of this particular recipe. It just seemed to taste more like a salad than cole slaw so I will most likely skip the slaw next time. I will also go back to eating the crab cake without a roll and tomato so I can enjoy the crab cake by itself.
After being open for only a month I can definitely say they have gotten thing going nicely and I will return to check out some other items on the menu soon. Founders is a great find and a great replacement that was long overdue.
